Safeco Insurance is dedicated to developing and delivering innovative services and products to help meet the changing needs of your customers.

Beginning this week, Safeco Insurance will begin testing Express Estimate, a new mobile app for auto claims.* This iPhone app allows customers to take photos of their damaged vehicle, send them to the Safeco® adjuster and see the estimates for repair – quickly and at their convenience.

How Express Estimate works

When the customer calls Safeco’s Claims Contact Center to report the claim, Safeco’s customer service representative determines if the claim is a good fit for Express Estimate. For example, the vehicle must be safe to drive, have minimal damage, no leaking fluids and airbags intact.

Customers who agree to use Express Estimate will receive an email with instructions to download and log into the app. This email will include contact information for Safeco claims and technical support for the app.

Express Estimate provides app users with tips on how to best capture photos of the vehicle's damage and prompts the customer to take a photo of the odometer and VIN.

Just 24 hours after submitting the photos, the customer can see the estimate in the Express Estimate app. From there, the adjuster will contact the customer to walk through the estimate and discuss next steps.

What’s next?

The Express Estimate testing phase will run for two months, and we expect the app will be used on less than 1% of Safeco's auto claims during this time. Depending on results of the test, we will consider expanding the app functionality, offering an Android version and making the app available to customers in all states.

*The mobile app will not be offered to customers in CT, DE, MA, SC, VA and VT ​during the testing phase.
